A human rights lawyer, equality expert, and our fearless public protector. She formed part of the part of the panel who assisted in the drafting our final constitution.-
Over the last couple of years Thuli became familiar households name gaining more popularity than her predecessor Lawrence Mushwana.
The Public Protector is appointed by the President, on the recommendation of the National Assembly, in terms of Chapter Nine of the Constitution. Through her honesty, dedication to serve the public and fearlessness we witnessed the becoming under serious criticism.
The controversial lease of a Pretoria building, were public protector labeled it “improper and unlawful” led to the recall of the then Police commissioner Bheki Cele. The recent findings on procurement of the electoral commission's headquarters, Nkandla report, which might determine the future of Jacob Zuma’s presidency, now recently the findings of falsification of qualifications by SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
The findings above are some of the reflects of the good work that she does for this country and for our democracy. She continues to ensure that our leaders whom we have put in power become accountable. Advocate Thuli remains our only hope to unearth irregularities and expose excessive expenditure about those who abuse states resources and our tax money.
As a nation we should continue, stand out for Advocate Thuli as she appears to be a blessing to our democracy. We wait with anticipation what will happen to the current SABC COO and most importantly, her final report on Nkandla. She continues to set a very good example on how people who holds public office should conduct themselves, while reminding them that the most important thing is to serve the public not to fill their own pockets.
In closing, I would suggest that if there is a person in government who deserves a second term is Advocate Thuli Madonsela, even though it seems unlikely.
