My name is Billy Arends and I have recently been “dismissed” from a well known restaurant in Randburg. I am not writing this for pity or retribution, but I merely a letter to the workers out there who find themselves in my shoes.
At some point in life, you are going to get dismissed, that's a fact of life, but workers don't need to feel afraid to tackle the big bosses and stand their ground and be fearful of fancy corporate lawyers in their shark suits.
Without having to go into much detail about my dismissal, I realized that I have the right to be heard. I have a right to be informed why I am dismissed and I have a right to a fair hearing and all this needs to be documented and acknowledged. I never fully realized this, until I started asking advice from my close friends and they explained the "
What should have happened part". Irrespective of the situation you may find yourself in, guilty or not guilty, you still have the right to feel human and still feel like the constitution actually still means something.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, and even if you arm yourself with just a little bit, it helps. I was going to give up and let the employer win hands down. Not anymore
I think
every employee, needs to arm him or herself with just enough knowledge, so that they do not just get up and give up when the boss tells you so.
It is time to stop taking unnecessary beatings, stand up for ourselves as employees and "stick it to the man".
There are much more powerful means of making yourself heard, and I am not going to have a ONE-MAN-TOYI-TOYI.T
he truth is and shall remain :
The PEN is still mightier than the SWORD!
