I was reading an article a couple of weeks ago from our local news paper, with regards the children and the safety belts.
I would like to share a lesson that I have learn, that could have cost my children's lives.
I want to place aware many parents that ignore a child's safety safety belt due to obvious different reasons.
In May 2000, I was turning in Swartkoopies Road (Alberton), when someone coming from opposite direction decided to beat the red light, obviously at high speed.
It was my worst nightmare. I had at the time my 3 year old and my 11 year old in the back seat (not strapped).
I cannot remember how many times the car spun due to the impact, but when it came to a stop, I realised that my 11 year old was no longer in the back seat and nowhere to be found in the car.
I heard his cries for help from outside and I realised that he was thrown out of the left front window that was closed at the time and the passenger seat it was damaged due to his impact.
I could have lost my child due to my own negligence of not believing to use the rear seat belts.
I hope this story will make many parents out there realise how important it is to use seat belts, irrespective of the age and where your child is sitting..
Manufactures do not spend masses hours of research to put something on a vehicle that may be unnecessary.
