I was going to give y’all an early morning lesson in the flawed uselessness of politics, but, the arrest of a bunch of "sadists" from Parktown Boys has convinced me that there are issues greater than the redundant nature of our socio-political landscape.
"Thank God", I hear you say and damn straight... Politics - screw it. And screw all these pansy momma's boy, teens in nappies, misunderstood, feel sorry for me, half-twitter degenerates we call "the future" of our country. That's right Emo kids and poefter parents, I am talking to you.
For thousands of years there has been some sort of initiation at schools, clubs, fraternities and the like. It's just one of those things. Sure, it shouldn't get completely out of hand but, hear this sympathy seekers, many great leaders of our time (most, in fact) went through rites of passage and turned out okay. It's just one of those things and certainly not something you run to mom about.
There is a massive problem with discipline in our schools and plenty of that stems from all this touchy-feely, don't harm the cretins mantra. It's kak.
Go to any big all boys' school, such as Grey College for example, and you will find well mannered, well behaved and respectful kids that stand when a lady enters a room, that are helpful to strangers and know their place amongst their peers. That kind of thing doesn't come from anything other than the discipline enforced by the school's seniors.
There is tradition, there is pride, there is taking it like a man and becoming part of the culture. It's not a new thing, as I've said, so what's all the fuss about?
Of course there are exceptions to the rule but, really, if a 13-year-old boy can't handle a bit of necessary roughness from the school seniors then he deserves to grow into the office brat everyone wants to take out with a rusted spoon first thing in the morning.
I was donnered with bats, stumps, boots and all manner of things during initiation proceedings into various sports teams...but I wasn't alone. We took the pain as a rite of passage and, years down the line, I haven't shown any side-effects...bar the uncontrollable drooling, random crying and bad case of narcolepsy.
Just kidding.
Do your kids a favour over-protective parents, when the kid comes to you moaning about standard initiation practice being a bit rough for him, give him a clout and tell him to toughen up a bit. Only act if, IF, it's malicious abuse.
This country can do with fewer kids that hate the world and drown the planet in their flimsy Facebook postings.
Viva the "klap" I say. VIVA!
