Imagine a better Malema

21 November 2008, 08:33

Thilaiwi Nethengwe, News24 User

Have you ever thought what a better utilised Malema could do for our country? Julius Malema reminds me of the man who used to be called Saul before he became Paul in the bible. In a nutshell, Saul is the man who used to persecute Christians until Jesus recognised the potential in him. Saul became a changed man and he later became known as Apostle Paul. He is now known as a great missionary of Christianity.

I view Julius Malema as a strong, impertinent and fearless young man who do and say what he feels without proper consideration of the repercussions of his actions. The only problem about Malema is that he is not utilising his potential for the betterment of our country.

Imagine Julius Malema tendering his resignation from ANC to join The Congress of the People because he believes that it is his obligation as a young individual to defend and protect our tender democracy in which a lot of people were prompted to sacrifice their lives for the democracy that we are presently enjoying.

Imagine a fearless young man like Julius Malema saying vigorously that he believes in equality before the law therefore calling for Jacob Zuma to have his day in court to answer for his alleged corruption charges like everyone else who find himself/herself in a similar position as Jacob Zuma. Imagine Malema questioning Zuma's mistrust of the judges in his current corruption case, whereas the same judges acquainted him in his rape case.

Imagine a Julius Malema who values education and as a result redoes Grade 12 so that he can be a role model to young people and he can also legally register for degree in law with Unisa. Imagine him being disturbed by trees as classrooms in this era.

Imagine him reminding young people what Steve Biko, Hector Peterson, Tsietsi Mashinini and others did for future generation to have proper education that they wish; therefore, he encourages young people to utilise this opportunity presented fruitfully and to the best of one's capacity because tender lives has been compromised for constructive education which we are now enjoying.

Plight of young people

He would go on to say our country is faced with extreme shortages of expertise in the fields of chartered accountants, artisans, medical doctors and civil engineers. As a result he encourages the youth to choose maths and science at your high school level to qualify for those essential aforementioned fields of study.

Imagine Malema acknowledging the plight of young people, determined to make use of his position as he should be doing to address the challenges that young people are facing. Imagine Malema with the same vigor he use to defend Zuma telling government departments to open doors for young post-graduates as a bid to alleviate unemployment amongst young people.

Imagine him mobilising young people from various provinces to embark on a legal strike to demonstrate their discontent about the disbandment of the Scorpions - one of the most effective organised crime fighting units. Imagine him discouraging young people to indulge in unlawful and harmful activities such as drugs, sex and alcohol and also to encourage them to volunteer in activities that are meant to combat crime which is scaring away potential investors.

Imagine Malema declaring his full time availability to fight corruption an enemy number one to better service delivery to the people of South Africa.

The state of politics in our country is very worrying; we need fearless young people like the ANCYL president to speak vigorously and honestly for this country to survive its current tribulations. The only hindrance for Julius Malema is his association with a party or people who are opting to compromise our hard earned democracy for a particular individual.

I believe Malema has certain traits that are missing in the present generation. If Julius Malema can be properly mentored I bet half of the difficulties that we are faced with as young people can be resolved. He's fearless and assertive but in a destructive way, he needs to start utilising his scarce personality traits constructively to create a ladder for young people to reach greater heights.
