My vision for South Africa...

02 December 2008, 13:07

Mphatjie Monareng, News24 User

Dear Jacob Zuma,

The ANC, of which you are president, has called on South Africans to submit their visions for a better South Africa. Without any waste of time, I submit below a list of my wishes for your consideration:

  • First of all, I would like to plead with you to please step aside from the presidential race to allow your deputy in the ANC, Kgalema Motlanthe, to run for president of the republic. As you'd know, you face serious allegations of corruption, money laundering and racketeering. You are too questionable a character to lead the country as head of state.

Yesterday, on December 01, South Africa joined the world in celebrating World Aids Day. You'd also know that the theme of this year's event was "leadership". You have personally failed to provide leadership in the fight against HIV and Aids. I do not need to remind you why I am saying this. We need a president we can look up to for guidance and inspiration, and these are the qualities you do not posses.

  • My second concern relates to the people you surround yourself with. Your cronies, such as Blade Nzimande of the SACP, Zwelinzima Vavi of Cosatu and Julius Malema of the ANC Youth League, have repeatedly placed demagoguery above honest political campaigning (with your approval, of course).

The ANC National Executive Committee, over which you preside as president of the ruling party, is comprised of certain shoddy figures. Certain senior executive members of the ANC you lead have criminal records! And these are the people you think can lead in a country with one of the highest crime rates in the world?

  • My third worry relates to your failure to competently manage the ANC and all its contradictions since your election eleven months ago in Polokwane. The ANC under you leadership lacks coherence and is now characterised by absurdity. You are obviously incompetent and, therefore, not a fit and proper person to occupy the position of head of state. I know you like boasting about ANC policies, but policies do not implement themselves. Policies must be implemented by competent professionals, with credible politicians providing political oversight and leadership.

Overall, my vision for a better South Africa is that we should be led by credible politicians with proven track records of achievement in the areas that are of greatest concern to the nation: crime, poverty, unemployment and chronic diseases. I wish we had politicians who are in politics to serve the country and not to attain their own personal aspirations through public office.
