Optimistic about our future

04 May 2009, 08:06

Wayne Groenewald, News24 User

With all the negative politics that have been saturating the media lately, at least we can draw real optimism out of the results of the 2009 election.

There are some momentous achievements that took place, and with it the winds of change have filled our sails.

We are one step closer to a becoming a real democracy that places all South Africans on a equal playing field and where race takes its place at the back of the deck.

Helen Zille has been given the mandate by the majority of the population of the Western Cape to lead the province, she has achieved every objective her and her party set out to achieve in the 2009 elections. They are the only party in the election who actually increased their market share, and this fact shows that the DA are on the move.

What these dogmatic staunch ANC supporters don't realise is that Zille probably fought as hard for human rights as they did and didn't get to where she is today by pure chance. She is an excellent leader who delivers on her promises, something the ANC should be inspired by.

The black population of South Africa do not need to feel threatened by the DA, they have no affiliation to the old apartheid regime and should rather be viewed as South Africa's first true all-inclusive, multi racial democratic party.

Over the next five years it is going to become apparent to the South African population that Helen Zille is exactly what we need to build our nation. The next generation of voters will realise that it is not about skin colour but about competence and accountability, both of which are not existent in our current government and soon to be president.

The ANC should take note of what happened to past dynasties who thought they would rule forever. If the ANC understood politics they would realise this fact.

The ANC should not see the DA as a threat and focus all its energy on portraying it as a racist white party. They should rather draw inspiration from them and learn from their policies and work together rather than apart.

A mature democracy often shows leaders from opposition parties uniting on common causes which will benefit their people. The DA is no longer a party that snaps at the heels of the ANC like a little Chihuahua, they are a party with a firm agenda and that is to expose all corruption and lead this country from the front as the super power of Africa.

I am very optimistic about our future, as I know eventually the people of this beautiful land will place themselves over blind loyalty to a party who were brilliant in campaigning for freedom but weak in the arena of good governance and corruption avoidance.
