Reading the article in which the Black Management Forum take exception to lifestyle audits becomes rather humorous.
The attempt to spin the justification of such audits to that of a smoke screen for racism is extremely far fetched.
In essence having a Black Management forum in itself excludes certain parts of the population. The old saying goes the "pot calling the kettle black".
In South Africa the real smoke screen that has been created, is the rebalancing the wealth distribution in the country. The reality is that it seems this measurement is based on rands and cents and not per capita. Once we reach what ever the target is, as this is also unknown, the outcry won't stop there. Once we reach the point where the majority of the cash is in the hands of the black owed economy the distribution of such wealth will be question. We will fall into a category where the top 10% of the population will own 95% of the economy. Its funny as this has been trend since pre apartheid.
The major threat in our society is that rules, regulations, bills and policy are created by the very same people who benefit from it. In fact the Black Management forum is exactly the same people who benefit from these regulations and policies and not Mr Joe Soap cleaning the streets in Pretoria central.
Lifestyle audits will attract the targeting of individuals, as it is individuals who overstep their authority. Certain people, who enjoy a life of luxury, whilst his /her position of power does not justify such luxuries, are exactly the people the lifestyle audit will target.
If one is asked for such an audit to be conducted on ones life and you are clean from wrong doing, what better way to clear public scrutiny. If one is guilty of wrong doing that is when one should expect the race card to be played.
My concern lies that we pay our leaders from our taxes whilst they sit on boards of multinationals and running their own businesses. As in the private sector, this should not be allowed. If you earn a salary paid by taxes you should be excluded from any board and any other business arrangements. The fact that you are elected as a leader means your attention should be focused on the people who elected you and who is paying you. You are getting paid to do a job - so do it. How can you add value for the salary you are paid by government when most of your time is taken up in private sector board meetings or running a lucrative business on the side? It is no wonder that government is performing poorly as their elected staff are not focused on the job at hand but rather the opportunity outside of their government office.
I believe South Africa has reached a point where it is moving beyond the untouchables spinning reality to fiction.
We are at the point where we want results. No spinning or justification can solve the poor housing, poor literacy, poor crime prevention, poor service delivery and poor work ethic of our government.
The only solution is ownership, responsibility and dedication by means of taking actions on the issues our people face.
To the Black Management forum, no one is questioning the wealth of black people. The question is about wealth of leaders who manipulate power by lining their own pockets instead of taking responsibility on the ground. Your concerns as that of government is the fear of exposure and loss of ill become wealth. Should you wealth be legitimate you should welcome the audit as it will cripple your competition who has fallen at the feet of greed and strengthen your position in the business world.
The fact is if any white owed businesses are involved in these lucrative tendering practices please audit them to. Oh, I forgot that white owned business is not allowed to tender and their representation in government is almost non existent. Remember the "pot calling the kettle black".
