One thing that has always been part of the challenges I've gone through was the need I've always felt to be like or to be somebody I was not. That's something most young people still face, sadly. Always trying to impress by portraying a kind of personality that seemed kind of 'favorable' or is most likely to be loved by other people. Let's face it, we all want to be acknowledged some way or the other. But some of us go about it the wrong way. So wrong that they generate the exact opposite of what they had expected or wanted. People have generalized about the whole 'I want to be somebody else' saga. The 'condition' is mostly being blamed on the media and that is what we have all sort of accepted...
I think one thing we have not realized as society as yet is that people are mostly influenced by their surroundings. It's the people around them, the kids they go to school with. Kids can be very cruel and not all of us have had or have that courage to stand up to that indirect bullying and say 'I don't want to be anybody but me'. People make you believe by being just you, you're doing something wrong. I've always been plain if I may put it that way. Been always a very simple person, you know. But then sometimes it gets to a point where you feel; Oh no! Maybe I should be all extreme me, like "normal" people..
That's the other funny part about all this; Being 'normal'. Sometimes people are made to feel somehow abnormal and as a result feel the need to mimic what everybody else in society is doing, just so they feel accepted and feel that they're also a part. And also the way it's all been termed..'different'.. It kind of does make you feel abnormal. The term is a bit of an annihilating factor of personality sometimes. That's why I prefer unique. It sounds more accepting and a bit more constructive. Yea! at some point you have to accept that you're not going to be like everybody else. That's when you'll begin to embrace you the way you are and your strengths, in the process accepting your flaws. You're not me.. And I can never be you. Imagine if everyone did not conform to always wanting to be like who and who.. But began appreciating their Uniqueness..
Society can be better.. I think.
