The
South African Constitution has been described by global scholars and leaders as
the most progressive constitution in the world. At heart it advocates positive
social reform. The independence of the judiciary is fundamental to the success
of such reform with our brightest legal minds on the bench. This is the recipe
of success with nobody above the Constitution.
Zuma, the head of State, is now attacking this constitution. On Monday,
the Star newspaper reported: "We don't want to review the Constitutional Court,
we want to review its powers," Zuma said during an interview.
Any change to the “powers” would mean a change to the Constitution
itself. What message is Zuma giving? What is his intension? The Constitutional Court
and judiciary is the only body that is above him, as head of State. His meddling
with this relationship is surely indicative of his dictatorship qualities. His
lack of respect for the Constitution as the product of liberation of the South
African people is disheartening, to say the least.
Zuma is CEO of South Africa (Pty) Ltd and he is doing deals without the
consent of the shareholders (citizens). The company is being milked bone dry.
The share price will drop and more people will go hungry, just like Zimbabwe. These
are the traits of parasites. Is Zuma a master dictator like Mugabe, with a much
larger stock?
