Colonialism brought with it written African languages

17 March 2017, 11:43

Zille talks about the benefits of colonialism and blacks go crazy. Colonialism is the history of the whole wide world outside of Europe and China. The USA would not exist without colonialism. Most of Africa was colonized by the French, Portuguese and British at some point - and they brought education, technical skills and scientific advancement with them - none of which is needed in Africa, obviously. When these intruders from Europe discovered Africa - they should have left all of you dancing around the fire and gone straight home.

Do black South Africans actually realize that they would NOT even have a WRITTEN AFRICAN LANGUAGE if were not for the colonial settlers who came to this country. It was British missionaries who painstakingly wrote down the sounds they heard local African people speaking,  and then created the words, the written grammar that became our written mother-tongue languages for our local tribes like Xhosa, Zulu etc.

And all of you who go on about Cecil John Rhodes - who is seen as this racist who did not want blacks to go to university - Do you realize that MOST black people did not even have a written language during Rhodes's life time - the first novel in Zulu, written by John Dube, was only published about 20 years after Rhodes died !  If colonialism is such a problem, then EVERY BOOK written in a local African language should be removed from every library, school and university now. These books are a PAINFUL REMINDER of our Colonial past.

It is tragic that Mmusi Maimane has seen fit to side with and defend ignorant uneducated locals by attacking Helen Zille.  I am starting to feel that there is absolutely no hope for this country.
