What we choose to see, is shaped by our own prejudices. This is true also of the Dove ad.
The black girls morphs into the white girl, who morphs into the asian girl. Was there a suggestion of a succession towards improvement? Nothing I could pick up; all three girls looked equally lovely. Any suggestion in the ad that, absurdly, it is more desirable to be white than black? I must have missed that too.
No, I think this is a storm in a teacup, fanned by people who desperately want to see racism where there is none.
A final thought: How would this ad have gone down, had it started with the white girl, morphed into the black girl, then morphed into the Asian girl? Would that have been any better to the aggrieved folks? If so, then why?
We really need to be focusing on issues that matter.
