Has Trumpism replaced neo-Nazism?

28 September 2017, 09:59

Watching the recent protests by some Americans over the weekend is something I never ever thought I would be witness to in the year 2017.

Young Americans openly expressing their hate for non-whites and non-Christians. Young Americans openly and proudly waving the Nazi flag, a flag that is known worldwide for its association with racism, hatred and discrimination. Images of young Americans marching with fire lit torches which reminded me of the villagers in the old black and white Frankenstein movie.

The scariest sight for me was to witness young Americans, essentially America’s future, marching with their hands raised in the air in the infamous Nazi salute. Instead of hearing the familiar "Heil Hilter", we witnessed these young Americans shouting "Heil Trump". Trump took a while to respond.

One would think that the line would have been drawn in the sand with shouts of "Heil Trump" - but sadly, because this egotistical megalomaniacs favourite topic is himself, he probably was transfixed to the TV screen, basking in his oversized ego, while Americas next generation was saluting using the Nazi salute and shouting his name  in the form of "Heil Trump". It must have been music to his ears.

Why do some Americans think it’s acceptable to openly promote white supremacy and Nazism? What makes them think their hateful behaviour is acceptable? Why have we seen a recent marked increase in this openly expressed hatred and discrimination? Have Americans forgotten that their country is built on immigrants? Do Americans realise that unless they are Native American, that they are the descendants of immigrants?

America has always been regarded at the ‘big brother’ of the globe and considered the leader of democracy, justice and equality. It is extremely concerning to see therefore, that America is currently not setting the best example to the rest of world. When ‘big brother’ America starts tearing at the seams from within, I think the world should be very concerned.

Trump’s press conference was simply ludicrous. He defended his decision to wait for two days before making an official statement. His reason being that he wanted to make sure he had all the facts correct and did not want to make a quick statement. As usual he took a moment to attempt to blow his own horn by stating that, unlike other politicians, he only responds when he has all the facts, once again holding himself in higher esteem than all those who have gone before him.

He also managed to throw in the fact that he not only owns a home in Charlottesville but in fact also owns a winery. What facts was he waiting to confirm? What was unclear? As I mentioned above, it is my opinion that he relished watching Americans call out his name, even if it was preceded by the infamous “heil” Nazi salute. His aides probably had to drag him away from the TV in order to make his statement.

When asked the question “why do Nazis support you?”, he replied “they don’t”. Was he watching the same protest? Did he not see protesters sporting the Nazi flag shouting with raised arms in a salute “Heil Trump? Did he not see this as endorsement or approval? Of course not, he’s insane and only sees and interprets what he chooses – don’t forget Trump lives in a world of alternative facts!

So back to the question on why some Americans recently find it totally acceptable to openly promote racism, hatred and discrimination?  For the answer, one needs look no further than the sitting President of the United States of America. His campaign and subsequent term of office has largely been based on discrimination, racism and non-tolerance of anything or anyone ‘NON-AMERICAN”.

The fish rots from the head. Sadly the rotten excuse for a comb-over encased head, is rotten to the core.  The rot and stench will continue to spread through the United States of America.

God Bless America. God help America.
