Zambia's Milingo to say mass
06/12/2002 11:04 - (SA)
Lusaka - Zambia's controversial Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo will say his first public mass in Zambia after more than 20 years away from his country, the Roman Catholic Church said Friday.
Milingo, who arrived on Thursday in Zambia on a private visit to see his family, will say mass on Sunday with Zambian bishops and an archbishop, the church said in a statement.
Milingo last year stunned the Catholic Church when he broke his vow of celibacy and married under the Unification Church of Reverand Moon. He has since renounced his marriage.
The church sent him on a year-long retreat in Argentina, where he is said to have spent time meditating on his mistakes.
Milingo told the state-run Times of Zambia that some bishops at the Vatican were against him but thanked Pope John Paul II, who he said was very "understandable". - Sapa-AFP
