Reshuffle in Malawi cabinet

Blantyre - Malawian President's Bakili Muluzi has reshuffled his cabinet, making a surprise appointment of opposition leader Chakufwa Chihana as a second vice-president.
The president also sacked two veteran ministers, Aleke Banda and Harry Thomson in the reshuffle, which was announced at a news conference on Wednesday by top civil servant Alfred Upindi, secretary to the office of the president.
There follows a list of the new, 46-member government:

Vice-president and minister of privatisation: Justin Malewezi
Vice-president and minister of agriculture, irrigation and food security: Chakufwa Chihana
Minister of defence: Rodwell Munyenyembe
Minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation: Lilian Patel
Minister of economic planning and development: Bingu wa Mutharika
Minister of finance: Friday Jumbe
Minister of commerce and industry: Sam Mpasu
Minister of home affairs and internal security: Monjeza Maluza
Minister of education, science and technology: George Ntafu
Minister of housing: Kaliyoma Phumisa
Minister of lands, physical planning and surveys: Thengo Maloya
Minister of water development: Dumbo Lemani
Minister of natural resources and environmental affairs: Uladi Mussa
