Oil workers to be evacuated
02/05/2003 16:08 - (SA)
Abuja - Workers on four hijacked Nigerian oil rigs, both strikers and around 100 trapped Western staff, are to be evacuated on Friday after a deal was struck between the US rig owner and unions, a union leader told AFP.
Peter Akpatasan, president of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers (Nupeng), said: "It was resolved that the four rigs should be downmanned, as requested by the management.
"All the workers should be brought off the rigs today," he added.
