  • Paris - It is too early to say for sure that the al-Qaeda movement was behind the suicide attacks in Casablanca that left 41 dead, Moroccan government spokesperson Nabil Benabdellah told France-Inter radio on Monday.

"To say right now that al-Qaeda is behind these attacks would be to state things of which we are still not altogether certain," he said.

"It is evident that these actions carried out against Morocco were undertaken by Moroccan elements in liaison with networks in place in our territory - networks themselves in relation with the international terrorist network," he said.

"Yes of course, this international terrorist network is often said to be al-Qaeda. We will be more forthright on this when we have concrete proof," he said.

The Moroccan authorities have identified eight of the 14 suspected suicide bombers, including one who survived.
