Mombasa - A terror suspect arrested in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa detonated a grenade killing a police officer and seriously injuring two others and himself, police said Friday.
The suspect who detonated the grenade is believed to be Yemeni, according to police.
The suspect, who was resisting arrest, exploded the grenade near Mombasa's central police station as police tried to force him into a car.
The arrest was carried out by police investigating last November's car attack on the Paradise Hotel, north of Mombasa, in which 12 Kenyans and three Israelis were killed.
At almost the same time, there was a failed attempt to shoot down a chartered Israeli jet taking off from Mombasa airport with 260 departing Israelis tourists on board.
The attacks were claimed by Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network.
