Melbourne - A senior Australian policeman has been arrested over an alleged sexual assault in the West African country of Sierra Leone, state police said on Friday.
The Victoria state police superintendent, who has not been named, is currently on 12 months leave without pay in Sierra Leone, where he has been arrested and faces charges.
Victoria police deputy media director Kevin Loomes said in a media release that details surrounding the alleged incident were unclear and the force was trying to obtain further information from Sierra Leone police.
The assault is alleged to have taken place this year.
