Rabat - Moroccan authorities have arrested three more men accused of being part of an Islamic terrorist cell planning attacks against Jewish and American interests, a court source said on Wednesday.
They are accused of being part of a terrorist group along with another 18 men, including two Belgian citizens of Moroccan origin, who are already in custody.
Defence lawyer Mohamed Hilal said the three had appeared before a judge on Wednesday and their case had been grouped with the 18 arrested in recent months.
A Moroccan judge has previously sought cooperation from authorities in Belgium, The Netherlands and Spain because the main suspect, Mohamed Reha, 18, a Belgian of Moroccan origin, told police he had been in touch with suspected Islamic extremists now detained in those countries.
Police suspect the group of planning attacks against tourists and the parliament in Morocco, and of trying to set up an Al-Qaeda network across north Africa.
According to a police report, the group's plans were devised in Belgium by Algerian national Khalid Abou Bassir.
