Khartoum - The African Union will pull its troops out of Darfur by September 30 unless Sudan drops its opposition to the deployment of a United Nations peacekeeping force in the war-torn region, said the group's spokesperson on Tuesday.

UA spokesperson Nouredinne Mezni said: "The African body reached this decision at a meeting in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on Monday.

"We are ready to review the mandate in the event that Sudan and the UN agree on the transition to a peacekeeping force."
