Lagos - A Nigerian actress, Akinwande Taiwo Hassanat, was formally charged on Tuesday with trafficking in cocaine, an offence punishable by life imprisonment on conviction in the West Africa country, reported private Channels television.
Hassanat, who is famous in Nigeria and uses the stage name "Wumi", was arrested by officials of the national drug law enforcement agency (NDLEA) last September 23, as she attempted to board a London-bound flight, said the report.
The actress, who was charged with allegedly being in possession of 1.2kg of cocaine when she was arrested, pleaded not guilty to the offence, said Channels, which showed footage of her court appearance.
Hassanat allegedly excreted 92 wraps of cocaine after her arrest at the Lagos international airport.
