Lagos - Nigerian police reported an oil leak on Thursday from a pipeline in a northern suburb of Lagos, the country's main city, just 48 hours after another pipeline caught fire, killing at least 269 people.

"What we know of is a leakage of petrol from a pipeline at Ipaja area of the city. No information yet on any explosion," said Lagos police spokesperson Bode Ojanuni.

A Red Cross official said his organisation had received reports of a problem involving a pipeline in a northern part of the city and that volunteers had been sent to investigate.

"We have no other information yet," he said.
