Spain aids Pakistani illegals

Madrid - About 200 illegal Pakistani immigrants, whose ship was towed by a Spanish vessel to the coast of Mauritania, are still on board, said Spanish rescuers on Monday.
The Spanish foreign ministry was attempting to obtain from the Mauritanian authorities permission for the migrants to disembark.
The MS Marine I suffering from a technical problem was spotted off the Canary Islands on Friday.
A Spanish rescue vessel towed it to Nouadhibou in compliance with an international agreement obliging countries to take broken-down vessels to the nearest port.
Spanish sources said Mauritania had not signed the agreement.
The migrants were given food and water by Spanish rescuers on board. None of the Asians were reported in need of medical attention.
Several large vessels carrying hundreds of Asian would-be immigrants have arrived in Spain in recent years.
