Chiluba 'stable' after collapse

Lusaka - Zambian ex-president Frederick Chiluba, admitted to hospital after a sudden collapse from a heart complication, was in a stable condition, his spokesperson said on Friday.
"His condition is stable. He did several tests and he remains in hospital for observation," said Emmanuel Mwamba.
The corruption-tainted ex-president collapsed at his house on Thursday and was rushed to the state-run University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
Chiluba has an acute cardiac complication.
The ex-president, who was convicted of stealing about $46m in state funds by a London high court earlier this month, was due to appear before a panel of medical doctors on Monday to determine whether he was fit to stand trial.
He is facing trial on charges of theft of public funds before a magistrates' court in Zambia, but his case has stalled due to his illness, which has kept him out of court since March last year.
Chiluba has been undergoing treatment in South Africa since last year when his condition worsened and his doctors described his heart problem as "life threatening".
Chiluba ruled Zambia for 10 years until 2001, when he retired from politics and hand-picked successor President Levy Mwanawasa, who later accused him of grand graft.
