Lagos - Thirty-four people were killed in two separate accidents on Nigerian roads at the weekend, police and residents said on Monday.
The police in the central state of Kwara said 24 people burnt to death when a passenger bus collided with a petrol tanker on Ilorin-Bode road.
"We recovered 24 bodies from the scene of the wreckage," said senior police officer Debo Akanji.
At least 10 people were killed and several injured in a second accident near Akure, the Ondo state capital on Saturday, resident Tayo Alonge said by telephone.
"The cause of the accident is dangerous overtaking," he added.
Accidents occur regularly on Nigeria's poorly maintained inter-city roads.
Two weeks ago, about 30 people including 27 policemen were killed when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck in central Nigeria.
