Lagos - At least 450 Nigerians have been deported from Libya because of immigration offences, say airport officials.

They said the Nigerians were repatriated for living in the north African country without valid residence and work permits.

Officials said the deportees were flown into Lagos Airport in three batches of 150 each in the past week.

An official said: "The last batch came in at the weekend."

Hundreds of Nigerians, in search of greener pastures, used north Africa as a transit route to Europe and America.
