Zambia suspends anti-drug chief
08/08/2007 15:19 - (SA)
Lusaka - Zambia's anti-drug chief has been suspended for allegedly pocketing money taken from criminals, say officials.
President Levy Mwanawasa suspended Drug Enforcement Commission chief Ryan Chitoba late on Tuesday on charges of abuse of office including stealing funds recovered from offenders, they said.
Officials said Chitoba would be on half-pay pending resolution of the matter.
Chitoba and his close associates were also under investigation over allegations of money-laundering.
