  • Lagos - Nigerian police have detained a ram for causing a motor accident in Lagos, the country's hub of social and economic activities, official news agency, Nan said on Monday.

The detained animal, according to Nan, strayed onto the busy Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Sunday afternoon and caused an accident in which a taxi, a truck and a private car were damaged.

A witness said the driver of the cab had applied the brake suddenly on sighting the strayed ram, while the other vehicles rammed into the taxi from behind.

The ram was consequently arrested and detained at the Makinde police station "for unlawfully getting onto the road".

A senior police officer was quoted to have said that the animal had to be taken to the police station for "proper documentation".

It was not clear whether the animal sustained any injury.

In 2005, a stray cow onto the runway of Port Harcourt airport caused an aircraft to be improperly landed.
