Lusaka - The wife of former Zambian president Frederick Chiluba appeared in court on Monday charged with receiving proceeds of corrupt acts by her husband, who was accused of stealing state funds.
Regina Chiluba appeared before a magistrate's court in the capital, Lusaka, on six counts of receiving property and funds allegedly stolen by Chiluba when he was president between 1991 and 2001.
She was arrested and charged last week just days after being discharged by the court following the withdrawal of the same charges by state prosecutors. She said: "I deny the charges."
The court adjourned the case to September 17 to decide whether the trial should take place in Lusaka, where Regina was arrested, or in her hometown of Ndola, where the offences allegedly took place.
Chiluba was accused of stealing state funds and property, which he allegedly gave to his then mistress, Regina.
The former president divorced his wife of 33 years and married Regina shortly after he left office.
