Kenya frees bomb suspect
26/10/2007 18:47 - (SA)
Nairobi - A Kenyan court freed a man on Friday who had turned himself in to police after a bombing in downtown Nairobi that killed one person and wounded dozens.
Authorities had issued a picture of Ahmed Hirsi Farah following the blast four months ago and said they believed he had information about the explosion.
Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Anne Murage did not elaborate on the decision to drop the case against Farah, who still faces separate charges of providing false information to immigration authorities and being in Kenya illegally.
The June 11 bombing revived bitter memories of a huge blast blamed on al-Qaeda that killed more than 200 people at the US embassy in 1998.
