Lisbon - The second ever EU-Africa summit began in the Portuguese capital Lisbon on Saturday in the presence of 67 leaders from the two continents, including Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.
"It was from Lisbon that Europeans set out to discover Africa and my country is proud once again to be the bridgehead between Europe and Africa," Prime Minister Jose Socrates of Portugal, the current holder of the EU presidency, told the gathering.
"This summit is a summit of equals," he added. "We are equal in our human dignity... but also equal in terms of political responsibility."
