French woman held for cocaine

Bamako - Police in Mali have arrested a French woman at Bamako Airport after she was found carrying 15kg of cocaine and are looking for four other suspects, says detective chief Amidou Kansaye.
"Our services arrested a French woman of Moroccan origin... last week. Four other French women are being sought in connection with the same affair," said the police chief.
He said the woman, who was not identified, was still in Bamako police custody on Tuesday. Another Malian police source, asking not to be named, said that several related arrests had already been made in France.
"We're up against a new technique," the source said. "Drug dealers know they are being watched, so they have begun to bribe young French women and men, often of African origin," the source said.
Overall, police in the sub-Saharan country seized 151kg of cocaine in 2007. Parts of West Africa had become a transit zone used by South American drug barons to smuggle cocaine into Europe.
