Lagos - Twelve people were killed after a truck collided with an oncoming passenger bus in Nigeria's commercial capital at the weekend, said police on Monday.

"The driver of the truck was careless. He was trying to overtake another vehicle when the truck crashed into the bus," said police chief superintendent Sunday Adejare.

"All the 12 occupants of the bus died on the spot," Adejare said, adding that the bodies of the victims of Saturday's tragedy had been deposited at the mortuary.
