Nairobi - Kenya's government on Monday lifted a ban on live broadcasting imposed after President Mwai Kibaki's disputed December 27 re-election in what it said at the time was an effort to prevent the incitement of violence.

"The ban has been lifted," government spokesman Alfred Mutua said. Rights groups and the opposition had criticised the ban as an attack on free speech.
