Tanzanians protest Bush visit
16/02/2008 08:07 - (SA)
Dar es Salaam - Hundreds of Tanzanian Muslims on Friday held a demonstration in the streets of Dar es Salaam to protest against US President George W. Bush's upcoming visit to the country.
Some carried placards with anti-Bush slogans and others burnt US flags, an AFP correspondent reported.
Security has been stepped up in the seaside city ahead of Bush's visit but police did not intervene and no violence was reported.
"Bush is a cruel leader. It is sad that Tanzania has allowed his visit," said Juma Ramadhani, one of the demonstrators.
Bush is expected on Saturday in Tanzania as part of a five-nation tour of Africa. President Jakaya Kikwete has urged the nation to give the US president a warm welcome.
