18/04/2008 13:27 - (SA)
Geneva - The UN's human rights office says it has been asked to cease operations in Angola by the government there.
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights says the southwest African country refused to sign a standard agreement on rights protection in Angola.
The agreement was intended to secure the UN's continued operations in Angola.
Spokesperson Rupert Colville told reporters in Geneva on Friday that the UN will close its rights office in Angola by the end of May.
