  • Maputo - Zimbabwe's opposition chief Morgan Tsvangirai arrived in Maputo on Wednesday for talks with the Mozambican leadership about the post-election crisis in his homeland.

Tsvangirai made no comment to waiting reporters as he first entered a meeting with Afonso Dhlakama, president of the opposition former rebel Mozambique National Resistance (RENAMO) movement.

Tsvangirai's spokesperson George Sibotshiwe and Maputo government officials said the Movement for Democratic Change leader would next meet Mozambique's former head of state Joaquim Chissano and then President Armando Guebuza.

The trip to Mozambique was the latest leg in a series of diplomatic visits by Tsvangirai designed to build up pressure on his archrival President Robert Mugabe in the aftermath of Zimbabwe's March 29 general elections.

The results of the presidential election are still to be announced and the outcome of a simultaneous parliamentary election was also up in the air as officials continue with a partial recount of votes.
