  • Addis Ababa - The AU's Peace and Security Council on Monday held talks with Sudan's justice minister over the International Criminal Court's possible war crimes charges against President Omar al Bashir.

Abdel Basit Sabdarat, who lead the Sudanese government delegation to Addis Ababa, met with the AU envoys to discuss the best way to deal with the issue.

"We don't want a precedent to be created because Sudan is not a member of the ICC. We are committed to the Darfur peace initiative within the umbrella of the AU," Sudan's deputy envoy to the AU, Hawei Bonamalwal, told AFP.

ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo accuses Bashir of personally instructing his forces to annihilate three non-Arab ethnic groups in Darfur, masterminding murder, torture, pillaging and the use of rape to commit genocide.
