Geneva - The UN humanitarian office says aid workers in eastern Chad have been attacked by bandits over 120 times this year, hampering efforts to bring food and other relief to tens of thousands of displaced people.
A spokesperson for the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs says three aid workers there were killed in attacks this year.
Spokesperson Elisabeth Byrs said on Tuesday that several non-governmental organisations have temporarily suspended work in the eastern Chad towns of Goz Beida, Ade and Dogdore.
She says nearly 40 000 displaced people in eastern Chad will be left without vital aid if the situation fails to improve.
