Johannesburg - Two veteran Zimbabwe opposition activists who were badly beaten up by government forces following their arrest last weekend have been re-arrested, according to the country's opposition party.
Johannesburg spokesperson for the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), George Sibotshiwe, said on Saturday afternoon that the two were picked up after trying to board a flight for Johannesburg at Harare International Airport to seek medical treatment.
According to Sibotshiwe, authorities ordered them back to Harare's Avenues Clinic.
He said Grace Kwinje and Zekai Holland were scheduled to be treated at the Sandton Clinic and were about to board a British Airways flight.
"Medical staff at the Avenues clinic recommended that they be transferred to South Africa (Sandton Clinic) to seek specialist medical services," said the spokesperson.
Sibotshiwe also said that, according to reports from Harare, police had taken the father of an activist who died as a result of the attack to his grave at gunpoint.
Gift Tandare had been buried privately by police while the family were making funeral arrangemnets, said Sibotshiwe.
