Johannesburg - Another Zimbabwe opposition activist was arrested after being badly beaten up by government forces at the Harare International airport on Sunday morning, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said.
A spokesperson based in Johannesburg, George Sibotshiwe, said the party's public information officer Nelson Chamisa was on his way to a meeting in Belgium when he was attacked.
"He was hit on the head with an iron bar right at the airport's entrance and sustained serious injuries," said Sibotshiwe.
His personal belongings, including a laptop, were stolen.
Sibotshiwe said Chamisa had to return home and would then go to hospital.
On Saturday afternoon two other MDC activists who were badly beaten up by government forces following their arrest last weekend were re-arrested.
Sibotshiwe said the two were picked up at the same airport after trying to board a flight for Johannesburg to seek medical treatment.
According to Sibotshiwe, authorities ordered them back to Harare's Avenues clinic.
He said Greg Kwinje and Zekai Holland were scheduled to be treated at the Sandton clinic and were about to board a British Airways flight.
"Medical staff at the Avenues clinic recommended that they be transferred to South Africa to seek specialist medical services," said Sibotshiwe.
He said it had been reported to him from Harare that police took the father of an activist who died as a result of last weekend's attack to his grave at gunpoint.
Gift Tandare had been buried privately by police while the family were making funeral arrangements, said Sibotshiwe.
