SA urges Zim parties to talk
19/04/2007 17:54 - (SA)
Pretoria - The South African cabinet urged on Thursday Zimbabwe's government and opposition to take advantage of the goodwill of the region to find a lasting political solution in that country.
Briefing reporters after cabinet's fortnightly meeting in Pretoria, government spokesperson Themba Maseko said the urgency of the need for a solution in Zimbabwe could not be overstated.
"All efforts must be aimed at getting the parties around the table to talk," said Maseko.
"I see no value in both parties, the opposition leaders and the government, pointing fingers at each other."
He said the immediate challenge for Zimbabweans was to take the necessary steps to create an environment that would be conducive for free and fair elections in 2008.
