  • Harare - Zimbabwe's government condemned the opposition on Wednesday for declaring itself the winner of joint presidential and parliamentary elections, saying it should have waited for the official outcome.

    "If the MDC thinks they have won, why don't they wait.

    "What is urgent?" Deputy Information Minister Bright Matonga told the BBC.

    "Let it come from official sources."

    Matonga's comments come after the Movement for Democratic Change's General-Secretary Tendai Biti said its leader Morgan Tsvangirai had won enough votes in Saturday's election to negate the need for any run-off against veteran President Robert Mugabe. - Sapa-AFP
