SA workers back in Zim court
09/04/2008 19:03 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Two South African technicians were back in a Harare court on Wednesday to face charges of contravening Zimbabwe's media laws, the brother of one of the men said.
Abdulla Gaibee and Sipho Maseko were granted bail of Zim$200m on Monday but were only released from police custody on Tuesday as they were unable to immediately pay the amount, said Ebrahim Gaibee.
"He [Abdulla] is staying in a hotel in Harare and definitely doing much better," said Gaibee adding that his brother had received further medical treatment for bronchitis.
He said he did not know if Maseko had returned to hospital, where he had been treated for high blood sugar levels, relating to his diabetes.
The men were arrested on March 28 and were acquitted of contravening the Information and Protection of Privacy Act last Friday.
However, they were re-arrested as they left the Harare court, seemingly under the premise that the judge's ruling was not "proper".
The men were charged with defeating the ends of justice by colluding with officials for their acquittals on Sunday.
They were in Zimbabwe under the employ of Globecast, which provides satellite services to some broadcasters covering the elections.
Maseko's whereabouts could not be immediately confirmed.
