SA wants Zim vote explanation
10/04/2008 12:02 - (SA)
Pretoria - President Thabo Mbeki will decide on Thursday whether to meet with MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Aziz Pahad said.
He said the South African government had only received a request of the MDC to meet with Mbeki on Thursday.
"It would be important to hear what Mr Tsvangirai has to say," Pahad told reporters at the Union Building in Pretoria.
He said Mbeki would also decide on Thursday whether he would attend the "very important" Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit in Zambia at the weekend.
"It is our view that the president should attend the summit if his programme allows," Pahad said.
He said the Zimbabwean Electoral Commission should explain the delay in releasing the results of the presidential election in Zimbabwe.
This would help restore calm to the tense situation in Zimbabwe.
"Its not time to lose patience," he told reporters.
