Zim police threaten crackdown
14/04/2008 20:30 - (SA)
Harare - Zimbabwe police pledged on Monday to deal severely with any unrest during a general strike called by the opposition, announcing extra officers and soldiers were deploying across the country.
"As everyone is aware, the past stay-away's have been characterised by random destruction of property and threats to life," said police spokesperson Wayne Bvudzijena.
"Those who breach the peace will be dealt with severely and firmly."
The opposition Movement for Democratic Change has called for a general strike to begin on Tuesday in a bid to force the electoral commission to release the results of a March 29 presidential election.
