2nd MDC member murdered
15/04/2008 17:25 - (SA)
Harare - Zimbabwe's main opposition party said on Tuesday another of its members had been killed by suspected ruling party supporters in another incident of political violence.
Temba Muronde was beaten to death in the northeastern Mudzi district, a rural stronghold of President Robert Mugabe's ruling Zanu-PF, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) spokesperson Ian Makone told AFP.
"We won the presidential vote there and what they are trying to do is to overturn that by conditioning the population," he said of the Zanu-PF supporters and Mugabe's loyal so-called war veterans.
Police could not be immediately reached to confirm the incident.
An MDC election agent was stabbed to death by Zanu-PF supporters on Saturday night northwest of Harare, but police said they did not believe the murder was politically motivated.
Seventeen days after Zimbabwe's general elections, the country is still awaiting the outcome of the presidential poll.
