Tsvangirai leaves Dutch embassy
01/07/2008 09:39 - (SA)
Amsterdam - The Netherlands' Foreign Ministry says Zimbabwe's opposition leader has left the Dutch Embassy in Harare.
Ministry spokesperson Rob Dekker said Morgan Tsvangirai had left the embassy after deciding the situation in Zimbabwe was calm enough for him to return to his home for the time being.
He said embassy staff in Harare would remain in close contact with Tsvangirai after his departure on Monday.
Dekker said on Tuesday that Tsvangirai sought refuge because he felt unsafe and would be welcome again if the same situation arose.
Tsvangirai won the opening round of Zimbabwe's elections, but withdrew from the run-off June 22 because of violence against his supporters, leaving Robert Mugabe to claim victory.
