Zim: 'They must sort it out'
08/07/2008 21:43 - (SA)
Pretoria - The people of Zimbabwe need to remove themselves from their present crisis situation, said Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on Tuesday.
"The crisis in Zimbabwe needs all the Zimbabweans to work together to extricate themselves from their positions," Dlamini-Zuma told a gathering at the presidential guest house after the eighth meeting of the SA-UK Bilateral Forum.
"South Africa has for a long time said Zimbabwe needs an inclusive government to get out of their problems."
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said the UK stood by its position that the crisis in Zimbabwe was a regional one and that regional and international intervention was necessary.
"The days do matter in Zimbabwe and South Africa recognises that."
Reserved about sanctions
Miliband referred to a Sotho saying that if the neighbour's house is burning, the owner of the house next door must recognise that he is also in danger.
Miliband referred to Zimbabwe as South Africa's "troubled neighbour".
Dlamini-Zuma would not be drawn on whether South Africa would intervene and back the proposed United Nations Security Council sanctions on Zimbabwe.
"Our leaders are at the G8 meeting as we speak and all of them who are there have expressed reserve on sanctions," she said.
